The Rhode Island Supreme Court announced on April 27 that it will hold a public hearing regarding proposed amendments to several court rules. The changes are primarily related to the Judiciary’s transition from its current case access platform, the Rhode Island Judiciary Public Portal, to a new system called re:SearchRI by Tyler Technologies.

The upcoming hearing matters because the technology’s functionality could change how the public remotely accesses court documents. The Supreme Court previously issued proposed rules on March 12, 2025, in anticipation of implementing re:SearchRI and invited written comments from the public until April 11, 2025. After further internal review of the new platform, these proposed rules have been modified.

According to the announcement, “the Court is seeking additional public input by inviting interested parties to provide testimony at a public in-person hearing.” A copy of the order setting this matter down for hearing and including updated amendments is available for viewing through official channels.

The Supreme Court will hold this public hearing on Wednesday, April 29, at 9:30 a.m. in its courtroom. Advance sign-up is not required; however, those wishing to address the Court are encouraged to email the Supreme Court Clerk’s Office at SupremeCourtClerksOffice@courts.ri.gov.

Broader implications of these changes may affect how individuals and organizations access legal records online as technology platforms evolve within Rhode Island’s judicial system.
