Rhode Island Superior Court announces judicial assignments for April 5 to May 2, 2026

The Rhode Island Superior Court released on April 2 its administrative order outlining judicial assignments for the third period from April 5 to May 2, 2026. The order is subject to revision by incoming Presiding Justice Joseph A. Montalbano.

The announcement details which justices and magistrates will oversee various court calendars across Providence, Kent, Newport, and Washington counties during this period. Assignments include responsibilities over criminal, civil, trial, business, gun-related matters, and specialty dockets such as adult drug court and sexual predator cases.

Justice Carnes will manage the Criminal Calendar in Newport County; Justice Cruise will handle the Trial/Pre-Trial Calendar in Providence County’s Courtroom No. 4; Justice Darigan will assist on the Trial Calendar in Courtroom No. 3 in Providence County; and Justice Keough will assist both on the Trial Calendar and Gun Calendar in Courtroom No. 11 of Providence County.

Acting Presiding Justice Robert D. Krause is assigned to oversee the Gun Calendar in Courtroom No. 10 of Providence County until further notice or revision by incoming leadership. Other notable assignments include Justice Licht overseeing multiple calendars—such as Med Mal Pre-Trial and Mass Tort—in Kent County’s Courtroom No. 4D; Special Magistrate Burke managing Pre-Arraignment matters at J. Joseph Garrahy Courthouse; General Magistrate Lopes handling Costs, Fines & Restitution; Magistrate McBurney supervising Daily Criminal cases; and Magistrate Valentino responsible for Adult Drug Court along with other specialized dockets.

The order was signed by Acting Presiding Justice Krause on April 1.
