A registered sex offender, David A. Skally, has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison for his second conviction on child pornography charges. Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom announced the sentencing.
In 2016, Skally was convicted of possessing and accessing child pornography with intent to view and was sentenced to 30 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release.
During his recent trial in December 2024, evidence showed that Skally admitted to viewing sexually explicit images of children multiple times after his release while on supervised release. He acknowledged that some images involved children aged 11 or younger engaged in explicit conduct. Investigations revealed that he tried to bypass monitoring safeguards, but a forensic examination found several illicit images on his computer.
The jury determined that Skally possessed and accessed child pornography with intent to view it, including material involving prepubescent children under twelve.
U.S. District Court Senior Judge William E. Smith sentenced Skally to 120 months in federal prison with an additional ten years of supervised release. His previous supervised release violation resulted in a concurrent term of ten months. The court also imposed a $10,000 assessment as per the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015.
Assistant United States Attorneys Ronald R. Gendron and Denise M. Barton prosecuted the case with assistance from Christine D. Lowell and John P. McAdams.
This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse since May 2006.
