A Providence man has pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.
Court documents state that on March 30, 2024, Troy L. Antley, 56, was stopped by Providence Police after failing to signal while turning at an intersection. During the stop, officers observed a knife on the driver’s seat. When retrieving the knife, police found a round of ammunition in the cupholder and noticed the handle of a gun between the driver’s seat and center console.
The firearm recovered was identified as a loaded 9mm Smith and Wesson semi-automatic pistol. Authorities determined it had been reported stolen from Alabama. The magazine contained 14 rounds with one additional round chambered; it had capacity for up to 16 rounds.
Antley has prior convictions related to firearms, robbery, drug trafficking at the state level, and a previous federal firearm conviction from 2013.
Sentencing is scheduled for November 20, 2025. A federal district judge will determine Antley’s sentence based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal factors.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Stacey A. Erickson and Milind M. Shah are prosecuting the case. The investigation involved both the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Providence Police Department.
