A federal grand jury has indicted a Newport man, Kyle Patrick Tomey, on charges related to the enticement of a minor and child pornography offenses. Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom announced the indictment, which includes allegations of coercion and enticement of a minor, attempted coercion and enticement of a minor, receipt of child pornography, and possession of child pornography. It was emphasized that an indictment is an accusation and that Tomey is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

According to charging documents, Tomey allegedly communicated with a minor female on various social media platforms and enticed her to meet him for illicit sexual activity. Court documents indicate that law enforcement discovered multiple images of the minor victim in different stages of undress stored in one of Tomey’s social media accounts. The authorities also found communications leading up to the alleged encounter as well as several images depicting other minors that were considered child sexual abuse material.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI and West Warwick Police Department. Acting United States Attorney Sara M. Bloom expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by the Newport Police during the investigation and arrest.

Assistant United States Attorney Milind M. Shah is prosecuting the case.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Department of Justice’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section to address child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide by coordinating federal, state, and local resources to apprehend offenders and help victims.
