A Guatemalan national, previously deported after a 2014 drug trafficking conviction, has been sentenced for illegal reentry into the United States. Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom announced that Pedro Andony Alvarado Aguilar, 46, will face deportation once again.
Court records indicate that Alvarado Aguilar was convicted in federal court in Connecticut in November 2014 for conspiracy to import significant quantities of cocaine and heroin. He was deported on July 1, 2015.
On April 10, 2025, immigration officers identified Alvarado Aguilar through an automated biometric fingerprint match following his arrest in Rhode Island for driving with a suspended license and obstruction charges. He was charged with illegal reentry on May 9, 2025, and pleaded guilty on May 29, 2025.
U.S. District Court Judge Mary S. McElroy sentenced him to time served since he had been detained in federal custody since May 2, 2025. An immigration detainer has been filed against him.
Assistant United States Attorney Peter I. Roklan prosecuted the case, which was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America. The initiative aims to combat illegal immigration and eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime perpetrators by leveraging resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
