A Dominican national pleaded guilty on Mar. 23 in U.S. District Court to several federal fraud offenses, according to an announcement by United States Attorney Charles C. Calenda.
The case concerns William Jose Alejandro Arias Amador, age 45, a citizen of the Dominican Republic residing in Providence. Arias Amador admitted guilt to charges of false representation of a Social Security number, health care fraud, and wire fraud. He was indicted by a federal grand jury on December 3, 2025.
Court documents show that Arias Amador applied for Medicaid and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits using the identity and Social Security number of a United States citizen.
Assistant United States Attorney Dulce Donovan is prosecuting the case. The investigation involved multiple agencies: the United States Department of Agriculture Office of Inspector General; United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General; United States Department of Labor Office of Inspector General; United States Social Security Administration Office of Inspector General; and the United States Department of Homeland Security.
Arias Amador is scheduled for sentencing on July 8, with his sentence to be determined by a federal district judge after consideration of U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
