A Dominican national previously deported from the United States after a federal heroin trafficking conviction has been indicted for illegal reentry, according to an announcement by Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.

Wandy Alcibiades Diaz-Diaz, 45, was identified by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) through a fingerprint match in January 2025 following his arrest on several state drug charges. After his arrest, Diaz-Diaz was convicted in Rhode Island Superior Court on multiple drug offenses and is currently serving a 66-month sentence at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI).

Assistant U.S. Attorney Ronald R. Gendron is prosecuting the current federal case, which stems from an investigation conducted by ICE.

“A federal indictment is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty,” stated the press release.

This prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative led by the Department of Justice to address illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and enhance community safety. The operation coordinates resources from programs such as the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
