A federal grand jury has indicted Juan E. Acosta Gomez, a 21-year-old Dominican national living in Providence, for allegedly downloading and possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM), according to an announcement from Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.

Acosta Gomez faces charges of receipt and possession of child pornography. He is currently detained and will appear in federal court on the indictment at a date that has not yet been set.

Charging documents state that the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force received a report in October 2025 about disturbing CSAM images being uploaded to devices linked to Acosta Gomez. Federal authorities executed a search warrant at his residence on November 4, 2025, where they reportedly found numerous CSAM images and videos on his personal devices.

“A federal criminal indictment is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty,” the statement emphasized.

Assistant United States Attorney John P. McAdams is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) along with the Rhode Island ICAC Task Force.

This prosecution falls under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Department of Justice’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section. The project brings together federal, state, and local resources to pursue individuals who exploit children and identify victims.
