A Coventry resident has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for offenses related to the exploitation of a minor and production and distribution of child sexual abuse material, according to an announcement from Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.

Scott P. Hickey, 46, received his sentence from U.S. District Court Chief Judge John J. McConnell, Jr., after pleading guilty in July 2025 to charges that included possession and access with intent to view child pornography, exploitation of a minor, distribution of child pornography, and possession of child pornography.

Court documents indicate that in June 2019, Hickey was indicted on charges of possessing and intending to view child pornography after law enforcement officials found 164 images of such material on his cellphone. Further allegations revealed that while awaiting trial in this case in 2023, Hickey exploited a minor female multiple times by live streaming or recording sexually explicit acts. He was arrested on July 27, 2023. A forensic examination of his phone later uncovered at least 572 images involving child sexual abuse.

The prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorney Paul F. Daly, Jr., with the investigation conducted by FBI agents from Providence and Washington, DC field offices.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative aimed at combating the problem of child sexual exploitation nationwide by coordinating resources across federal, state, and local agencies. More details about Project Safe Childhood can be found at https://www.justice.gov/psc.
